Rockwell Automation Training Cost: CCP146, CCP151, CCP143 and the Certificate Path
What Rockwell Automation's Studio 5000 instructor-led courses cost through US distributors, how long they run, what the Logix Programmer and Maintainer certificate paths require, and cheaper ways to prepare first.
Short answer: Rockwell Automation doesn't publish course prices on its own site. Its course pages tell you to contact a local sales office or distributor. On October 25, 2026, one US distributor, Agilix Solutions, listed these classroom prices:
- CCP146 Studio 5000 Logix Designer Level 1: ControlLogix System Fundamentals: $2,325 for 2 days
- CCP151 Level 2: Basic Ladder Logic Programming: $2,325 for 2 days
- CCP143 Level 3: Project Development: $3,200 for 4 days
Another distributor, Turtle, listed CCP299 ControlLogix Fundamentals and Troubleshooting at $3,400 for one location and noted that pricing may vary. Prices differ by distributor, region and date, so get a quote from your local Rockwell distributor before you budget.
Researched October 25, 2026 from Rockwell Automation's course and certificate pages and from public distributor listings (sources at the end). We did not take these courses.

Rockwell's core Studio 5000 courses
| Course | Code | Length (Rockwell) | Example US price (distributor) | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Studio 5000 Logix Designer Level 1: ControlLogix System Fundamentals | CCP146 | 2 days | $2,325 (Agilix, St. Louis, March 2027 date) | People with "little or no working experience" with Logix controllers |
| Studio 5000 Logix Designer Level 2: Basic Ladder Logic Programming | CCP151 | 2 days | $2,325 (Agilix, Columbia MO, December 2026 date) | The next step after CCP146 |
| Studio 5000 Logix Designer Level 3: Project Development | CCP143 | 4 days | $3,200 (Agilix, St. Louis, January 2027 date) | Programmers building complete projects |
| ControlLogix Fundamentals and Troubleshooting | CCP299 | 4.5 days | $3,400 (Turtle, Clark NJ; "pricing may vary") | Maintenance and troubleshooting staff |
| Logix Programmer expedited course | CCP250 | 5 days | Check with your distributor | Fast route to the Programmer certificate |
| Logix Maintainer expedited course | CCP300 | 5 days | Check with your distributor | Fast route to the Maintainer certificate |
There is one conflict in the listings. Rockwell lists CCP299 at 4.5 days, while Turtle's listing ran it as a 5-day session. Ask for the actual schedule when you book.
What the class runs on. Rockwell's CCP146 page describes a simulated workstation using Studio 5000 Logix Emulate, FactoryTalk View SE as the I/O simulator, and FactoryTalk Linx or RSLinx. So even the official Level 1 class is largely software-simulated rather than wiring real I/O.
E-learning version. CCP146 also exists as a 7-hour e-learning course (CCP146-EL) under Rockwell's Learning+ subscriptions. Agilix describes Learning+ as a yearly subscription with self-paced e-learning and hybrid virtual classrooms. It includes lesson quizzes with an 80% pass mark, and a Certificate of Completion with CEUs when you pass. Single e-learning courses are also sold with 90-day access. Neither Rockwell nor Agilix shows a Learning+ price, so check with your distributor.

Try it: press START, then STOP
A stop-dominant seal-in rung: START latches the motor output through its own contact, and STOP breaks the circuit.
Watch the output lamp: it stays on after START until you press STOP.

The Rockwell certificate programs
Rockwell's certificate-programs page lists two Logix certificates that most PLC learners care about.
| Certificate | Traditional path | Expedited path |
|---|---|---|
| Logix Programmer | CCP146 + CCP151 + CCP143 + one elective, then the T-CLXPT online assessment | CCP250 (5 days, assessment included) |
| Logix Maintainer | CCP299 (or CCP146 + CCP153 + CCCL21) + one elective, then the T-CLXMT assessment | CCP300 (5 days) |
Rockwell also lists an advanced programmer level (CCP251) and certificates for Kinetix 5700 and PowerFlex 750 drives.
All courses and the assessment must be completed within 18 months, and the traditional-path assessment carries "additional charges" that Rockwell doesn't state. Passing earns a Certificate of Achievement. It's a vendor certificate program, not a licence.
A rough cost example. At the Agilix prices above, the traditional Programmer path is $2,325 + $2,325 + $3,200 = $7,850 in tuition. That total doesn't include an elective, the assessment fee, travel or time off work. This is our sum of separate listings, not a figure Rockwell publishes.
Is Rockwell training worth the cost?
Yes, when:
- your plant runs ControlLogix or CompactLogix and your employer pays;
- you need the official Rockwell certificate on your record;
- you want a live instructor who can answer questions about the platform you'll actually maintain.
For Allen-Bradley shops, nothing else carries the same name recognition.
Probably not as your first step, when:
- you're paying yourself;
- you haven't yet learned contacts, coils, seal-ins, timers and counters.
Two days of CCP146 move quickly. Students who arrive already able to read and write basic ladder logic get far more from the class. The money is better spent once you can follow the instructor without working out what an XIC instruction is.
Cheaper ways to prepare before a Rockwell class
| Option | Cost (as published) | What it gives you | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| PLC Simulation Software (our product) | Free tier with no expiry; Pro $29/month or $249/year; Teams $199/seat/year (5-seat minimum) (product facts) | Browser ladder lessons in an Allen-Bradley-style dialect, graded machine scenarios and fault-finding labs | Not Studio 5000, no Rockwell certificate and no native Rockwell project files |
| Studio 5000 itself | Licence cost varies by edition; see our Studio 5000 price guide | The real IDE | Paid licence; Logix Emulate is a separate product |
| Low-cost online courses | Varies; see PLC Dojo or our best online PLC courses | Video instruction on RSLogix and Studio 5000 concepts | Practice depends on what software you can get |
| Allen-Bradley-focused academies | Subscription; see our myPLCtraining review | Structured Studio 5000 lessons and exercises | No Rockwell certificate |
A sensible budget route: learn the ladder fundamentals cheaply, then ask your employer to fund CCP146/CCP151 or the expedited CCP250 once you can use the class time well.
Frequently asked questions
How much does CCP146 cost?
Rockwell doesn't publish the price. On October 25, 2026, Agilix Solutions listed CCP146 at $2,325 for a 2-day class in St. Louis. Other distributors may charge differently, so request a quote from your local Rockwell distributor.
How long does it take to get the Rockwell Logix Programmer certificate?
The traditional path is CCP146 (2 days), CCP151 (2 days) and CCP143 (4 days) plus an elective and an online assessment, all within 18 months. The expedited CCP250 course is 5 days with the assessment included.
Does Rockwell offer online training?
Yes. Rockwell sells e-learning courses, including a 7-hour CCP146-EL, and a Learning+ subscription with self-paced and virtual classroom sessions. Prices are quote-based through distributors.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Rockwell training?
For fundamentals, yes. Low-cost online courses and browser simulators teach ladder logic for a fraction of the price. None of them gives you the Rockwell Certificate of Achievement, so if your employer requires it, use the cheaper options to prepare and then take the official course.
